Ministries: Guidance

"Out of love, place yourselves at one another's service."
Galatians 5:13

There are several councils and committees, which help advise the pastor/parish administrator on matters of finance, building, facilities maintenance, stewardship or overall parish planning and operations. By sharing their time and talents, members show their commitment to and care for the parish community.

The Facilities Maintenance Committee is responsible for identification of maintenance and repair needs, establishment of a maintenance plan and preparation and monitoring of a budget for facilities. Committee members will advise the Pastor/parish administrator and parish business manager on items needing repair, obtain bids and may in some cases, direct a working group of volunteers (Maintenance Monks or Gardening Angels) who assist with the upkeep and maintenance of parish facilities, grounds and equipment. Meetings are held at 7:00 PM on the 3rd Tuesday of every month. Representative members are selected from and by other councils and committees in conjunction with the pastor.

The  Finance Council serves as an advisory body to the Pastor/parish administrator in the administration and stewardship of parish finances, budget, facilities, and long range financial development. Individuals sign up for this council and bring expertise in the areas of accounting, finance, investment, development, and budgets. Meetings are held on the last Thursday evening of every month. Members are invited by the Pastor to serve on this Council.

The Gardening Angels meet the 1st Saturday morning of each month to plant, weed, prune and otherwise maintain some of the gardens around St. Charles, including in front of the rectory and around Mary's Garden on the East side of the church. The "Angels" bring their own tools and will be trained if required. They enjoy working outside, sharing their gardening expertise and improving the parish gardens. Sign-ups are solicited at the annual Stewardship Faire.

The Maintenance Monks assist with the upkeep and maintenance of parish facilities, grounds and equipment. Men and women volunteers meet the first Saturday morning of each month when required to provide electrical, plumbing, general construction, painting and clean-up expertise for maintenance and repairs on the property. Members work in conjunction with the Gardening Angels when grounds maintenance or pruning is needed. Projects are identified and supervised by Facilities Maintenance Committee.

The Pastoral Council represents the parishioners and is an advisory or consultative body to the pastor/parish administrator and business manager. The Pastoral Council's primary focus is on visioning and long-range pastoral planning. They collaborate with the parish staff to carry out the parish mission, vision, strategic plans and goals. Meetings are held in the Keeley Center at 7:15 PM on the 2nd Thursday of the months September through June. Three council seats expire each year. Selections are held in May and members serve for a term of three years.

The WE Can Do It! committee was formed to implement ideas generated at parish assemblies and from input from parishioners about ways to make St. Charles better known in the outside community and to better engage out parishioners.
